Al Ud is an ancient Arabic plucked pear-shaped instrument. Al Ud is parent of guitar family. It was taken to Europe during Crusades. Al Ud became very popular and even kings were proud to learn to play it.
According to a legend English king Henry VIII played Al Ud perfectly and even wrote music for it.
Al Ud is played with the help of goose feather, which is using as a plectrum. Today Al Ud is a basic instrument in Arabic and Armenian music. Variety of Al Ud - greek instrument Lauto is spread at Crete island.
