CHEKERE is a Cuban percussion. It is straight relative and ancestor of Brazil AFUCHE. It is made from dried kalebasa pumpkin. Outside there are dried seeds of tropic fruits threaded on special net. It is widely used in afro-cuban music side by side with maraca and another percussion. Modern musicians from different countries play it, propagandizing ethnography music.
